When COVID hit, field sales professionals had to pivot to a remote selling role.

They replaced their briefcase, suitcase, and gas cards with a Zoom account, inside sales technology, and a lower morale.

Response rates went down.

Sales cycles got drawn out.

Pipeline volume dried up.

You couldn't avoid the surplus of news articles promoting the benefits of remote selling. Flexible schedule. Better for professionals with families. There were a dozen others.

Field sale professionals were left out of the remote selling party. BUT more importantly, so was another, just-as-important stakeholder—the customer.

The down tick in response rates, opportunities, and revenue road alongside customer satisfaction, trimmed budgets, and new processes related to remote work.

The morale of buyers took just as much of a hit as the morale of field sales reps.

In 2019, Salesforce beat-the-drum for improving the customer experience. Thousands of buyers shared how their standards had increased, how they wanted a more personalized customer experience, and they adjusted their view of a field sales rep to a trusted advisor.

How were field reps supposed to deliver value virtually if they couldn't shake the customer's hand, visit their office or facilities, and communicate in ways that are impossible over a Zoom call?
