Field Photos and the City of Philadelphia LED Streetlight Conversion Project

Collecting photos in the field is a key component of our work on the City of Philadelphia 's LED Streetlight Conversion Project. Below are six high-resolution field photos taken of a single streetlight during the audit. We are collecting similar photos for each of the 125,000+ streetlights in this project. We've custom-built specific tools, processes, and workflows to streamline field photo collection.

As of today, we've collected approximately 115,000 field photos, totaling 476.39 GB on 21,113 streetlights. Each high-resolution field photo is approximately 4.14 MB. Currently, we are on track to collect 680,825 field photos across the City of Philadelphia, totaling 2818.62 GB.

GIS data generally has two components, features (i.e. points, lines, polygons), and tabular data where each row in the table correlates to a feature. Evari Plus adds a third item, photos. These photos help future-proof the audit. If we need to review photos to identify day-burners; lights on during the day that waste energy and deplete the lifecycle of the fixture more quickly, then we can review the photos to extract this information. These photos will be used by lighting designers to decide which new LED fixture should be used in this location. These photos will be used by the City to document parasitic load; attachments (cameras, wifi connections, etc.) that use power but aren't properly being charged. The photos document existing conditions in the event of a knockdown when someone hits a pole and it needs to be replaced, to determine what infrastructure was there before the pole was removed.

Evari Plus streamlined our contracted work, but also brings additional value during the project and well into the future.
