FID's (Fear, Insecurities, Doubts)

“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used to create them.” – Albert Einstein (allegedly)

Obviously, the mind is infinitely complex and still not completely understood by anyone. There is no conclusive agreement about where the mind even 'lives'. I can't get bogged down in all that, and I like to simplify things, so here's what I've found matters when working with the mind:

  1. The mind is closely entangled with the nervous system and sensory apparatus (body) when something hits our senses - the mind goes straight to work filtering and deciphering that sensation.
  2. It avoids pain and seeks pleasure.
  3. The mind is wired for protection and survival above all else.
  4. It much prefers the familiar and known to the unknown and uncertain.

Cool - WTF does that mean in my life? It means that when something hits our system, our mind wants to make 'meaning' out of it. What does this mean to me and my safety?

Let's take the classic hand on a hot stove example.

At some point, we've all had many proverbial 'hot stove' encounters. When our body and senses (including our thoughts) experience something that our mind categorizes as painful or unpleasant, then it is stored in a memory capsule or emotion for future reference to be avoided. Simple as that.

Our mind stores most of this at the subconscious level and runs programs or scripts to constantly check whether a given situation or experience seems similar and whether it's safe to proceed or not.

We get near a stove, and our subconscious sends a little signal - check this out - could be danger - and our conscious mind checks that the stove is off and/or takes caution to avoid that hot area.

That's how the Mindworx! Awesome - keeps us safe! BUT...

Sometimes we experience events (either once or repeatedly) that our mind perceives as unpleasant and then goes to great lengths to never experience that again.

In order to prevent us from experiencing these painful events it will send emotional signals of Fear, Insecurity, and Doubt to keep us at a distance from what it perceives as a potentially painful experience.

Keeping us from touching a hot stove is great, but Fear holding us back from asking someone on a date, or asking for a promotion, or leaving a job to pursue a passion can become quite problematic.

This can be confusing as our conscious mind desires change, but our subconscious mind is holding us back for fear of the unknown - it can feel like a mental knot

credit:

How do we untangle these mental knots? We have to identify the root cause - what is the subconscious mind holding on to and believing about me and this situation that is preventing a new result? (solve the problem at a different level from which it was created)

Mindworx is a simple process of investigating the mind by connecting basic question responses to feelings and cycling through them to unravel the knot and discover what feelings are being avoided and what beliefs are attached to those feelings. This works in two ways

  1. The subconscious fear is now understood at the conscious level, which breaks the loop and habit pattern. Now, a new course of action can take place - allowing for new results
  2. Old memories and emotions are processed and released, freeing up more energy to take new action.

This is how the Mindworx, it deciphers what it believes is good or bad for you and tries to prevent painful experiences from reoccurring.

But that script can be outdated and hold us back from new opportunities - once you can identify that script and what Fear, Insecurity, or Doubt is being activated - then you can update to a new script, launching you into new possibilities!

Insightful post Mike Buccialia! Mindworx sounds like a creative approach to helping us rewrite the story we are telling our minds. I am intrigued.

Love the post Mike Buccialia and it is important to understand our reactions. The Einstein quote is very apt too.
