Fiber End Face Inspection

Fiber End Face Inspection

“The first connection the fiber optic makes is with the end face fiber. All too often, we find our customers who are cleaning the fiber optic transceiver still experiencing network downtime. This is because the customer is not cleaning the end face fiber. If the fiber end face is dirty it will continue to dirty the optic and they will not preform the way that they should. In an industry where network uptime is important, it is also important to remember to maintain clean connection points. This includes the fiber end face.

“The first step in a fiber end-face inspection is to scope our fiber. When you find the optics dirty, there are two methods. We can either use the cleaning stick or our end face fiber wipes. I’ll start with the fiber wipes, where we place the fiber down directly on the wipe then give it a little twist. Then we’ll rescope, to ensure that we’ve cleaned it successfully. Or we can use our cleaning stick, where we place our fiber end into the tip and give it one pump. Again, we like to triple check our work here at Integra. So, we’re going to rescope the fiber end. The fiber end face is now clean.”

“Cleaning your fiber end face is a quick and cost-effective way to help maintain network uptime.
