FGCU hosts national Student Investment Conference in Cape Coral, Florida

On March 29th-30th our students had the opportunity to hear from business leaders and investment luminaries; Terry Duffy, CEO / Chairman of the CME Group, and Liz Ann Sonders, Chief Investment Strategist at Charles Schwab.? Captivating, Inspirational, and Amazing were some of the adjectives I heard our students use in describing the conference’s keynote speakers.

I had the honor of moderating a panel discussing the benefits of combining quantitative and fundamental analysis in a student managed investment fund.? Thank you to panel participants Steven DeSanctis CFA, quantitative equity strategist at Jefferies Financial and Tyler Hardt CFA, portfolio manager at Moran Wealth Management. ?Additional conference speakers included representatives from the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute, and the Chartered Market Technician (CMT) Association.?

In addition to the panels and presentations, students from attending universities had the opportunity to compete in trading and investment competitions and participate in a career fair.? Congratulations to FGCU “Eagle Fund” students Cazimy Coulanges, Nick Malik, Nick Panfen, Lily Hobson, Jordy Fuentes and Joshua Woodruff for placing 2nd in the SMIFC portfolio competition and to Brett Becker, for taking 3rd place in the trading competition sponsored by TradeUptoWallStreet.
