A Few Year-End Reflections

I know I say this every year, but wow! This year has flown by.

?Amidst year-end deadlines, the holidays and — for some of us — brutally cold weather, it can be easy to forget to take a deep breath and reflect on the year that was. Pausing and thinking about all we achieved, both big and small, is important. Not only can we celebrate our wins and lessons learned, but we can also provide closure and get ready for the new year.

?At TransUnion, I’ve spent some time thinking about where we’re at in our DEI journey, as well as where we were one year ago. In the spirit of gratitude, I’d like to share five of my top highlights from the past year at our company. By no means is this list exhaustive, but it’s a glimpse into the incredible work our associates are doing all year long.

?5. We advanced financial inclusion. From associate volunteerism with Credit Abuse Resistance Education (CARE) to our partnership with HomeFree-USA, TransUnion continued promoting financial inclusion for underrepresented groups in new and different ways.

?4. We advocated for the LGBTQ+ community. In addition to educational internal events about inclusive language, microaggressions and allyship with our LGBTQ+ colleagues, TransUnion signed the Human Rights Campaign’s letter in support of the Respect for Marriage Act.

?3. We supported mental health causes. TransUnion provided our associates with two global wellness days off this year, and we continued sharing educational resources for positive mental hygiene throughout the year. Our Networking Resource Groups also hosted a Walk for Wellness initiative for World Mental Health Day, in which associates participated.

?2. We expanded our training and development opportunities. In alignment with our gender equity commitment, we launched a global development program for our women associates to build and market their professional brand. We also expanded our management training programs specifically geared for selected Black, Latinx and Asian associates at TransUnion.

?1. We formed our DEI Office! Three new faces joined me in leading DEI at TransUnion this year, and I’m grateful. A huge shout out to Denise Fields (She/Her/Hers) Faith McFall-Smith and Kimberly Crocker for all their hard work this year — we’re so lucky to have each of you stewarding equity and inclusion across our organization.

?These are just some of the ways our community made strides in promoting equity and inclusion for our colleagues. I encourage you, too, to reflect on the past year and our accomplishments. More importantly, I hope everyone gets an opportunity to unplug and recharge - you deserve it.

?What will you remember from this year? Leave some of your highlights in the comments below.
