A Few Thoughts About Time

I’ve been thinking a lot about time… and the age old question of… where did it go?

Fact is... the clock moves at precisely the same speed, through the ages… never any faster, or slower than any other period of history.

We find hints of this curious observation in my favorite source for information; song lyrics. A few immediately come to mind.

  • Time keeps on slipping, slipping, slipping into the future.
  • Time Is On My Side.
  • Time After Time,
  • Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?

One of my favorite messages in a song comes from James Taylor… who gave us a tune that I sing in my keynote speeches to help my audiences focus on what I describe as: “Living life with your eyes open.”

Sweet Baby James simply tells us:

The Secret O’ Life is enjoying the passage of time

There ain’t nothin’ to it. Any fool can do it.

Nobody knows how we got to the top of the hill…

But since we’re on our way down,

we might as well enjoy the ride.

The thing about time, is that time is not really real.

It’s just your point of view… how does it feel for you?

Einstein said he could never understand it all.

Planets spinning through space… the smile upon your face.

Welcome to the human race.

Isn’t it a lovely ride?

We’ll be sliding down… gliding down

Try not to try too hard… it’s such a lovely ride.

The Secret O’ Life is enjoying the passage of time.

I firmly believe in that philosophy and have incorporated it into my everyday approach to life. In fact, I’ve found that I am far less concerned about WHERE I am… and strive to find contentment in the simple fact that I AM. This peaceful oasis has provided a much needed respite in a world filled with confusion and confrontation.

I have quoted St Francis DeSales many times using the words of a self-fulfilling prophecy that say, "when you get into the habit of looking for goodness and beauty, you get into the habit of finding it."

In my home, a place filled to abundance with love, music, laughter, and above all, serenity, civility and kindness, there is a constant reminder of appreciation of life that rests on the kitchen wall in the form of a sign that reads:

This bright new day, complete with 24 hours of choices, attitudes  and opportunities

A perfectly matched set of 1440 minutes.

This unique gift… this one day... can’t be exchanged, replaced or refunded.

Handle it with care. Make the most of it.

Thank you for taking a moment to read these words, and sharing your most valuable asset… your time.

I would love to share more thoughts, but… I’m out of time.

Love your quote Wayne:? "I have quoted St Francis DeSales many times using the words of a self-fulfilling prophecy that say, "when you get into the habit of looking for goodness and beauty, you get into the habit of finding it."? Thanks for sharing!!

I've heard it said that some see time as an adversary that we chase or it chases us. Others see time as a companion on our journey. I must admit that I see them all and prefer the latter.
