Little Lake, is a natural, spring-fed lake, a desert oasis on the westernmost edge of the Great Basin. It is located in the Mojave Desert about a half hour drive north of Ridgecrest in Rose Valley. The Lake is privately owned by a consortium of conservationist/hunters known as the Little Lake Duck Club. The Club has done a remarkable job protecting the lake and its associated natural and cultural resources. No access is permitted without special permission from the Duck Club and only very limited visitation is allowed.

Over 6000 individual prehistoric rock drawings have been documented at Little Lake. The Little Lake area is only a few miles south of the immense Sugarloaf Mountain Coso obsidian (volcanic glass) quarry. As such the ground is covered with a mosaic of shiny black sherds of this valuable toolstone that was employed by countless generations of Native people.
