A Few New Things to Try
Can you believe it’s the end of the year??
Actually, I can. I’ve gotten into the habit of writing at least a?one-sentence journal?every day, and it really helps you mark the time. Throw in a little gratitude and a little intention for the day, and it also serves as a way to make the most of every day.?
Over the past few years, I’ve also taken the time to debrief my year,?Tim Ferriss style.?
If you want to join me, the way I approach this is:
1. Go through my calendar and note the things that brought me the most joy and the most aggravation. (It actually takes only about an hour - don’t be intimidated! Also, it's kind of fun to re-live your year.)
2. Based on the “joy list” and “aggravation list," write down the “do more of” and “do less of” to help get more of the first and less of the second.?
3. Finally, I riff on my goals for next year, but more importantly I write down the process I’m going to use to achieve them. For example, every year I assign myself something new to learn about. This year I plan to learn more about?DAOs;?so my process will be to devote at least an hour a week dedicated to studying them and - probably - coaching inside of them.

I’ve gotten a lot of insights and action steps by doing this for the past five years. This year, for example, I'm planning to host more small dinner parties at my home and go someplace warm again this winter. I’m going to stop scheduling my days back and back and there are specific large networking events I’m not going to attend anymore.
If you do this process - or do end-of-year reflections in any way, hit reply and tell me what you got out of it.?
One thing that is bringing me an insane amount of joy is my new?podcast, with the same name as my book? From Start-up to Grown-up.?Check out all of the episodes, and let me mention 2 particularly wonderful ones: the discussion with Jeff Wald will resonate even if you’re not a start-up founder since he talks so openly about his failures and setbacks, and the episode with Jennifer Dulski is a masterclass on leadership from an incredibly accomplished leader. After you listen, hit reply and tell me what you think!
If you like my podcast, I’d really appreciate it if you’d go to?Apple Podcasts?(or wherever you get your podcast) and subscribe. And?please?leave a review?- that’s how other people can find it.?
Last new thing: I’ve gotten a lot of requests from coaches about conducting some sessions to help them in their focus on start-up coaching. I’ll be launching a small group mastermind about this for some coaches to get time with me along with other amazing coaches to learn alongside. If you’re interested in finding out more and getting a spot,?send me a message with your email address and tell me a couple of sentences about yourself?and what you’re hoping to get out of a program like that. We can then have a follow-up chat.
Happy New Year! Savor this time.
