Few of the Myths about SIAM
This article represents solely my views as an individual only and not related to any other person or organization.
SIAM - Service Integration And Management - While its multiple definitions are freely available over the internet, more interestingly many have their interpretation as well differently.
I have come across multiple times when people say many things about SIAM, on which I have a different view. To list a few of them:
1- SIAM implementation is a tool or technology-dependent.
2- SIAM isn't required if SLAs are Green.
3- SIAM is required only when there are multiple vendors involved.
4- SIAM is a one-time implementation.
5- SIAM is an additional cost on Service Delivery.
6- SIAM as a service can be delivered by the same team/person who is also responsible for Service Delivery.
7- SIAM is a part of Service Delivery and not Service Governance.
8- SIAM is limited only to the IT environment.
9- SIAM outcomes are only the integrated reports.
10- And the biggest one that SMO (Service Management Office) and SIAM are one and the same thing.
With my own experience, I can add probably 10 more points to the list. All these points are pure Myths. After working over a decade as SIAM consultant I see them as someone's Initial Impressions which for sure gets changed over the period of time when they go into detail about it in everyday work. Not only on a theoretical basis but I myself has implemented SIAM into different customer environments of different verticals and size and every time the journey starts from
WHY SIAM to WOW SIAM ........
