FEV Romania - Our EE Integration and Electrification Team

The migration to vehicle electrification is accelerated by the EU's decision to ban the commercialization of new ICE vehicles starting 2035. Therefore, more and more automotive OEMs are developing hybrid and full electric vehicles.

For FEV Romania, this represents an opportunity because we can offer our EE Integration and Electrification knowledge to the OEMs and help them discover and develop the best engineering solutions for their vehicles.

Areas of expertise

The In Vehicle Network responsible ensures a robust information exchange between all the systems embarked on the vehicles. Based on our clients' needs, the communication matrix can be developed with simple tools like MS Excel or Vector CANdb++, but if the activity is more complex, then Vector PREEVision could be used to model the information exchange in the vehicle. To ensure the good quality and robustness of the vehicle networks, our team makes use of the V-model for development starting from concept to requirements, to specifications and to implementation.

For the diagnostic activities, the team members are responsible for developing the diagnostic concept for new or modified systems and ensuring with the component suppliers the implementation and integration of the diagnostic services. Depending on the requests from our customers, the diagnostic team can integrate in the diagnostic concept variant coding for ECUs, EOL parameters configuration and DTC matrix for After-Sales. Providing quality output for our clients is essential, therefore the diagnostic specialists use ODX Studio and CANdela Studio, tools developed by Vector.

The responsible people for developing the HV architecture and HV wiring harness are constantly facing new and interesting challenges derived from the OEMs desire to optimize electric vehicles' mileage and charging times. The passion for electrification motivates our team members to study and provide our customers with the best technical solutions suited for the project budget and planning. New concepts are discussed, refined and modelled using Matlab Simulink. The HV wiring harness design responsible uses tools like Catia and Zuken E3 to ensure collision-free harness routing and the best compromise between electrical power throughput and harness weight and dimensions.

The team members responsible for the PCB design evaluation and EMC validation use specialized tools to simulate different testing scenarios like Ansys Maxwell 3D, CTS Studio Suite and Advanced Design System. Our EMC specialist provides support to OEMs for EMC immunity and EMC emission at component and system level during the development phase of the projects, and during the vehicle EMC tests and homologation.

Keeping the team motivated

The EE Integration and Electrification team has diverse activities which rely on the same core skills, which is beneficial for each member for 2 reasons:

  1. Constantly, there are knowledge-sharing sessions between team members because everybody is presenting their job particularities; since core competencies are the same, it’s easy for everybody to understand the topics and to learn from them.
  2. Incorporating a variety of tasks within the team helps prevent fatigue from repetitive work. In order to keep the productivity high, the team members need to be involved in new activities. Considering the technical competencies are similar and overlapping for the jobs performed within the team, they can easily rotate without the need of complex trainings.

We are proud of our work, and nothing beats that sense of accomplishment when we see our hard work driving down the streets. :)
