Feudal Times in Corporate America

We all know someone like this. Corporate America has diminished his potential to only that which he has done before. He will die out there on the vine without a new challenge to feed his soul. He also is struggling to buy a business, to risk it all because he lacks the confidence to cut the cord to society's standards. I am mystified as to why we lack the faith in ourselves until I realized how often we promote the veiled security of corporate America.
Then on a second call it was explained to me by a complete stranger.
Neo Feudalism has encroached upon our majestic shores. What once was the land of promise, a country where all men could own their piece of dirt and build their business empire has been diminished by the massive corporation’s false promise of security. As in Feudal Times we are now living in a time where 1% holds the purse strings of 99% of the population. Feudal times were marked by mass enslavement and a two tier class structure which in fact seems to be the direction Corporate America is headed. In the era of Feudal times slaves were fed and housed by the Lord. In exchange for food, shelter and protection they were committed to a life of slavery and military service. If you survived a conquering attack the new Lord maintained you as property of his kingdom. Eventually folks escaped the Manors and formed small towns and villages which gave birth to the middle class. We are returning to the manor though we no longer live in an actual dungeon many of us feel as though we are in an emotional dungeon.
The US was formed by small business and trade, where every man could have his own farm and strive for a piece of the pie. Why then do most of our brightest, talented individuals offer their lives for the corporate giants? Today less than 7% of Americans own their own business. They have no control of their lives, time, money or schedule. How did this happen at such an alarming rate and what will this next generation do to preserve the American dream?
Neo Feudalism is a very real phenomenon where corporate America controls the government, culture and individuals. When the 1% controls the 99%. It exists and it is frustrating for many of my peers that long to be engaged in the economy.
Do not settle for the value corporate America has assigned to you. Employ yourself, control your destiny. It may not be simply for economic reasons, it may be for control. Control your destiny and your time. Time is a nonrenewable asset that needs to be cherished above all. If not for the uncapped earnings than do it so you can go to your kids game or have lunch with your wife.

7 年Interesting take I tend to agree with. Historically, feudalism only ended because plague thinned Europe’s population, driving up labor’s value, especially that of specialists and craftsmen.
