A Festive Finish: Setting Your Team Up for January Success

A Festive Finish: Setting Your Team Up for January Success

With just 1.5 days left before Christmas, it’s not too late for leaders and executives to still make a positive impact on their teams, even amidst their own busy schedules.

There’s still time to influence your team and set them up for success as we head towards January…here are some thoughts:

Communicate and share ideas that could support reflection

Encouraging Reflection and Goal Setting

The Christmas break can serve as a powerful time for reflection. With most people closing down for a period of time, there will be few or no work distractions, meaning the next couple of weeks could be a good opportunity for some thoughtful reflection and goal setting.

  • Encourage your team to take a moment to think about their personal and professional journeys over the past year.
  • Create a simple framework for them to jot down key achievements and lessons learned.
  • You might even consider sharing a template or guiding questions via email or your internal communication channels to facilitate this process.
  • This act of reflection could support productive team and individual meetings on return.

Sharing a Vision for the New Year

As leaders, the ability to communicate a clear vision for the upcoming year will provide structure and clarity to your team members so they can return to work understanding the plan and the ask.

  • Share your insights and aspirations for the organisation and articulate the importance the team and individuals will have in achieving them.
  • Invite people to contribute or ask questions to ensure they are clear and feel included.

Encouraging a Mindful Break

Whilst recommending reflection and goal setting can be a positive, ensuring your team are also able to take time off and enjoy the break is important for them and for the business.

  • Encourage them to disconnect from work and engage in activities that rejuvenate them, whether it's spending time with family, pursuing hobbies, or simply resting.
  • A well-rested team is more likely to return refreshed with renewed energy which in turn will positively impact productivity and morale.

Creating a Welcoming Return As the holidays wrap up, consider how you can create a warm and welcoming environment upon everyone’s return.

  • A small gesture, like a team breakfast or a welcome back note, can set a positive tone and reinforce a sense of community.
  • It could be an opportunity to discuss goals and share any reflections.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas!!
