Festivals to benefit from LIVE Trust, UK festival map launched, Behind Polygon’s 360 shows

It’s an interesting and promising week for festival operators, particularly grassroots events. Live music industry umbrella organisation LIVE, which represents 15 industry associations, has provided details of its newly launched LIVE Trust, which among other things will draw funds from an arena and stadium show levy and channel much needed funds into supporting grassroots festivals, venues and artists.?Meanwhile, retiring AFO general secretary Steve Heap has funded the creation of a festival data map and resource that provides a clear representation of the size and scale of the festival landscape across England, Scotland and Wales.

In other news, A Greener Future reveals the greenest festivals and events across 14 countries, MOBO and Newcastle City Council launch a series of events to celebrate the MOBO Awards being staged in the city, and AAA will be joined by European Commissioner Glenn Micallef at Eurosonic Noorderslag (ESNS) in Groningen this week.

We also have an interview with Polygon Live CEO Nico Elliott who discusses the London summer outdoor show series that will see acts playing live using an immersive 360° sound system.


LIVE Trust launches with levy introduced to support grassroots sector including festivals

LIVE (Live music Industry Venues and Entertainment) has announced the launch of the LIVE Trust, which will draw funds from initiatives including an arena and stadium show levy, with the aim of safeguarding the future of the live music industry.

The LIVE Trust will initially channel funds into supporting the grassroots music sector, which saw 125 grassroots music venues close permanently in 2023, 78 festivals lost in 2024 and a 50% decline in tour dates over the last three decades.

Festival Data Map launched

A UK Festivals Data Map has been launched featuring the details of more than 850 festivals that took place in England, Wales and Scotland in 2024, where music was a key part of the entertainment.

Free to access and publicly available, the resource was commissioned by retiring Association of Festival Organisers general secretary Steve Heap in partnership with Events Industry Forum (EIF) and LIVE. It was created by Chris Carey of FastForward Events.
