The festival of the Sun is back in Peru!

June is the month of Cusco!?After 2 years of pandemic, Peru returns to celebrate with the public its traditional festivals, today June 24 begins one of the best festivals of Inti Raymi, a majestic Andean and millenary ceremony in honor of the sun god, which captivates Peru and the world, and is Cultural Heritage of the Nation

What is Inti Raymi about?

The Inti Raymi is a millenary celebration in which the Incas worshipped the Sun God or Inti. It was the most impressive and most solemn celebration of the Inca calendar. It began on the winter solstice and lasted for nine days, and was attended by authorities and pilgrims from all corners of the Inca Empire. It was a sacred festival, with fasting, abstinence and all the Tahuantinsuyo stopped their daily activities to worship the Sun God.

At the moment, it is the main event of the Festivals in Cusco, organized by the Provincial Municipality through the Municipal Company of Festivities and Touristic Promotion of Cusco. It is a staged event (which follows a script with historical support) with the participation of hundreds of actors, dancers and thousands of national and foreign visitors.

Inti Raymi 2022

Biosecurity restrictions will be followed, but it promises the same charm as every year, and as usual, the Inti Raymi will take place in three scenaries: the esplanade of the Temple of Qorikancha, Cusco main square and the esplanade of the Archaeological Park of Saqsayhuaman.

This year, a translation system from Quechua into four other languages (Spanish, English, German and French) has also been included, by mobile applications. This will make visitors can understand the Inca's message during the ceremony.
