Fertility Research: 1 in 5 women may conceive naturally after IVF-supported pregnancy

Researchers from UCL conducted a study in which they observed the pregnancy potential of women who conceived their first child with the support of IVF. It appears that 20% of women will likely get pregnant again naturally, even though they experienced infertility before their first pregnancy.

The study does not point out the reasons for this phenomenon, and there are concerns about the representativeness of the sample used for the study. However, researchers want to study it further and call for linked national datasets.

Fertility Research: Is it more beneficial to conduct IVF in summer than autumn?

Recently, ESHRE shared a study claiming that live birth rates of transfer from eggs collected during summer are up to 30% higher than those collected during autumn. Scientists mentioned multiple factors that could explain the phenomenon, such as decreased melatonin levels during summer or a lifestyle change. However, they raise the concern that this is a retrospective study and encourage replicating it with a prospective one in various environments.

FemTech Innovations: Wearable ultrasound scanner for breast cancer detection

MIT researchers created a wearable ultrasound scanner that can be inserted into a bra for continuous breast monitoring. Scientists hope the device can help reduce breast cancer mortality, which is nearly 0% when detected early, but about 75% in later stages.

The device is constructed as a patch that can be attached to a bra and can produce images of quality comparable to those made in medical centres. Such a device could protect women whose cancer develops between regularly scheduled mammograms.
