Feminism is not really a Third World issue
Feminism is not just a mere word or a concept rather it is an ideology which is supported through out the world by many people specially women. It is a universal truth that the female race is inferior to male in terms of physical strength and that’s why men have always dominated and exploited women since the inception of this mankind. A few centuries ago when the western society was going through industrial revolution a lot of things were changing at that time, the society was not only progressing technologically, but it was also evolving socially. It was the time when the world started to realize and recognize women rights. Slowly and gradually a woman who was not allowed to cast a vote or own a property now had the rights to do so.
The point which arises here is that when the society was going in the right direction and women were making leaps in attaining their rights then what was the need of feminism ideology. With the technologically advancing world the society faced new challenges pertaining to women rights. Now the issue was not about a woman casting a vote but it was about gender racism and inequality prevalent in the working environment. As time went through issues ( domestic violence, sexual harassment, rapes ) which were not highlighted and addressed in public before were now in the limelight. This is the how the feminism ideology started to gain its roots in the society.
The point which needs discussion here is that whether feminism a really an issue or a blessing for the society. The supporters of feminism proclaim that women are equal and as good as men in any race of life, while the opponents of this cause do not think alike. The problem arise when people from both ends go an extra mile to humiliate and defame each other in public which creates further gap and divide between the two human species.
In supporting their cause the proponents of feminism have somewhat shifted from the ‘ women rights’ notion to the ‘ women are right’ notion and this is basically the issue which needs to get addressed. The feminist ideology started from the first world and now it is quite eminent in the third world countries as well. This is because women are not only suppressed in the first world countries but exploitation of women rights is more evident in the third world countries. Due to ever increasing social injustice with women the popularity and support of feminism is increasing in the third world countries. The power of social media also fuels up to the support this ideology. Internet penetration in the third world countries has increased to a great extent in recent years and thereby the divide between the first and third world has greatly shrieked. Feminism if perceived and supported in a wrong way than it is not only the issue of first world instead it is as important of an issue to the third world as well.
