Fellow Friday - Sheryl Hammock, Bay Mills Community College

What do you do at the college and why is leadership important in your role?

As a Dean, I am an academic leader who has academic, programmatic, managerial, and fiscal responsibilities for a school. Deans verify the adequacy of instruction, monitor academic integrity, and are responsible for student recruitment, admission, and academic progress. As a Dean, I am charged with supporting the Department Chairs' vision and I provide leadership needed for my programs to excel and to advance the college's teaching, research and service missions.

What is your favorite quote about leadership???

You must be the change you want to see in the world. - Gandhi

What motivates you to invest in your own leadership development?

What motivates me to invest in my own leadership development is that I want to be a strong leader that improves programs and outcomes not only for staff, and faculty, but to increase student retention and success.
