Fellow Friday - Erin Sonneveldt
What do you do at the college and why is leadership important in your role?
I support faculty, staff, and executive administration in understanding and improving student outcomes, employee engagement, and organizational effectiveness. Leadership is important in my role because it is all about communication, collaboration, relationship building, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making.
What do you most admire about community college presidents and their leadership?
Their ability to innovate to meet student needs. Their excitement about serving students and community. Their ability to connect with students, faculty, and staff--to create a sense of belonging and shared purpose.
What does it mean to be an inclusive leader?
Intentionally and actively seeking input and contributions from stakeholders--seeking underrepresented voices. Not settling for status quo and challenging oneself to be more inclusive.
Vice President, Michigan Community College Association
