I know it’s a personal decision and not all men will feel the same way. But as a man who cares about his children, I can’t help but feel a sense of guilt whenever I hear about someone who takes time off to be with their family. I’m talking about the dads who take six weeks or more off from work to be with their newborns, and the moms who make the sacrifice of staying at home for the first few months of their child’s life. I literally kick myself for not putting the best interest of my kids and my partner before I put the needs of others.
You should take paternity leave and enjoy it. Paternity leave is an important part of caring for a newborn, and it can provide you with a sense of bonding and closeness with your child. Additionally, taking paternity leave can help you to develop a stronger relationship with your spouse and other family members.
In addition to being a fun and rewarding experience for you and your partner, taking paternity leave can also help your employer. According to the Family Medical Leave Act, employers are legally obligated to offer employees up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave to care for a new child. And that’s why you should be proud of your choice to take time off and cherish every second of it. If you don’t want to be away from your baby for the entire period of time, you can still take some form of leave.
