In Mexican culture today is the day to celebrate and honor the dead. So, in respect for this holiday I am wearing my hand-carved, bone scull necklace that I bought in Santa Monica about 30 years ago.
And I'm thinking about how lovely my Grandfather Fred was when he paid me $10 to bake and decorate him cakes (I was about 10 years old). And I'm remembering Michael Hayne who was 3/4 Native-American and inducted me into elderhood at my 50th birthday party with a special ritual. And how strong and powerful my mother Helen was when she fought for a variety of special concessions for my brother and for me. And how hard our friend Rikki fought for her life when she had cancer. And then there is Art Klein whose beautiful heart and soul still reminds me and my husband Jim of how deeply we all loved one another.
Those are just a few people who have died whose memories fill my heart and mind today.
What about you? Who has died that touched your life in significant ways? Make sure to take a few minutes to honor those that have passed on who touched your life.
