Unyielding team spirit and shared ambition are prerequisites for any group of people wishing to succeed in a collective endeavour.
During her time at high-end automotive finance provider JBR Capital, Finance Manager, Cheryl Law , has learned first-hand how cohesion throughout a team and a business can be a driving force for success.
Here, Cheryl explains how her own role at JBR Capital , and her knowledge and skills, have developed and provides an insight into her burning desire to see the world.?
?
How have you developed you in role since joining JBR?
I read about JBR Capital on LinkedIn, and initially applied for the Payouts team. But then during my interviews, we worked out that with my skills and qualifications, I would be better placed in the Finance team. It felt great in my interviews to know that my skills were being taken into account and that there was a clear consideration for my career and personal development, as well as filling the job role.”?
And since joining the Finance team, Cheryl has experienced her role at JBR Capital grow and evolve.?
?“I started here as Finance Assistant and have since been promoted to Finance Manager. My workload has increased with this promotion and I have been given more responsibility. My role mainly consists of settling customers’ finance agreements, working with them to pay out the loan. I also work on some in-house accounting, dealing with invoices and ensuring that commissions are paid correctly.”?
Tell us more about the Finance Department and departments you work closely with.
As a team, we know that we can lean on each for support whenever we need it. For example, I know that I can go to Treasury Manager Jack O'Leary-Blade , with any questions that I have. He knows the business inside out, so it’s great to have the full support of the team.?
We also work closely with other departments, particularly the Settlements and Payouts teams. Between us, we have a great communication process that enables us to call on one another as we look to settle customers’ loans. By working closely together, we can ultimately provide the best quality of service to our clients.”?
I think that fundamentally, we all share the same values and attitudes towards our work. We recognise the need to liaise with one another and have an ambition to work hard for one another, which translates into a great service for our clients.???

One of the great things about the way we work together is how meticulous everyone is. We all recognise the benefits of learning from our mistakes and taking the time to check all the small details, which at the end of the month can make all of the difference.”?
However, it’s not just a collectively robust work ethic that helps the teams at JBR Capital deliver success. A welcoming and vibrant office environment ensures that Cheryl and her colleagues have ample opportunity to get to know one another better – and ensure that everyone feels at home.??
What has been your favourite social event at JBR??
“There are always social events going on in and around the office, and these enable us to interact with our colleagues in a way that is different to working together on a loan arrangement for example. We can get to know each other better as people, learning about our backgrounds and interests.?
Celebrating Chinese New Year in the office really stood out for me, not just because it was great fun to decorate the office and eat lots of tasty food, but it also made me feel at home. Being from Hong Kong, it was really nice to feel included and recognised.”
What do you like to do outside of work??
I really enjoy swimming, so I try to do that as often as I can. I’ve also recently joined a tennis club, as I thought it would be a really cool sport to learn and I’ve always enjoyed watching it.??
?I love travelling as well – I’ve been to St Tropez and Paris this year and they were amazing places to see, although it really showed that I need to learn more French. I still want to tick Mykonos off my bucket list and I’m desperate to go skiing!
