Have you ever felt stuck in a rut, unsure of your next step? You're not alone. Many of us have experienced that feeling of being trapped, unable to move forward.
I remember feeling less than inspired when I was working at a major consulting firm. While I wasn't completely unhappy, I also wasn't fulfilled. The problem, I had absolutely no idea what would inspire, engage or fulfill me. I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do instead, so I stayed. That is until I was forced to figure it out when they laid me off.
?I look back at that layoff as the greatest gift I ever got.
The reality is, when we don’t have clarity or energy about the next move, we can get stuck.
I get stuck every night sitting in the corner of my sectional sofa under the warm blankets, knowing it is time for bed, but finding it hard to move. It takes my desire for a bedtime hug from my youngest to motivate me up the stairs.
So, my question to you, what gets you moving?
Sometimes, an external force like a job loss or a significant life event can propel us forward. But often, it's our internal motivation that truly drives us. What will drive your momentum?
If you're feeling stuck, consider the following:
·??????? Clarity: Do you have a clear vision of where you want to go?
·??????? Energy: Are you motivated and excited about your goals?
·??????? Action: Are you taking steps towards your goals?
If you don’t have clarity, focus on finding energy and taking action. You may not have a clear end game, but a small step can help increase your confidence in that next move.
Perhaps what I should have done back at that consulting firm was just talk to people in different roles that seemed interesting. Go back to basics and do some informational interviews. Build relationships, see what the options are.
If you're feeling stuck, it's time to take action. Even small steps can lead to significant progress.
I'd love to hear about the steps you're taking to get unstuck. Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below. Let's support each other on this journey.
Remember, you're not alone. With a little actions and consistent actions, you can move yourself in a new direction.?

1 周The rut might seem comfortable, Michelle, but the longer you stay there, the deeper it gets, until one day, you can't get out of it. In my career advice, I would tell those seeking higher positions in our agency to move into different jobs every few years for experience to show commitment to broader learning and seeking new challenges.
