Feeling Stuck in Your Writing??

6 Ways to Get Rid of Writer’s Block

As the CEO of an international publishing company and author myself, I have not only experienced writer’s block, but have also seen it with our authors as well.??It is one of the most common issues in getting a book published.?

A few days ago, as I was having a conversation about this with one of our amazing authors. I started writing down all the advice I was giving her and that is how this blog was born.

Here are six simple ways to get yourself unblock and let the inspiration flow:

Put it in your calendar

Your calendar is a powerful tool to keep your writing on track. Add reminders, checklists, and color coding with dates/time designated for writing. This will allow you to get into the habit of writing and you will be on track again while keeping you accountable for items you promised to complete.?

“Zoom out” to celebrate your achievements

Writing can be exhausting and emotionally taxing at times but taking the time to see your progress is one of the most amazing tools you can use. You “zoom in” to write and you “zoom out” to celebrate your progress. Every milestone counts when writing a book.

Create mini deadlines with rewards

Reward yourself with your accomplishments. Celebrate the small accomplishments that will lead you to bigger ones. For example, if each chapter has an intro, body and action item, reward yourself when one of the elements is done, not just when the entire chapter is completed.

Have an accountability partner

Share your specific goals with an accountability partner. Ask them to remind you on a weekly basis to keep you responsible and motivated. Having someone else to remind you makes a big difference!

Set up a date to have the book in your hands

Envision yourself holding the book in your hands. Now, envision the date/time this is taking place. Keep that vision alive and when you get stuck, go to that vision to remind yourself that you are working on a bigger mission than yourself. Having a date will not only keep you focused, but it will also create a sense of urgency to get it done.

Create meaning

Adding an emotional component to the book will take you to a whole new level. What does this book mean to you? Why does this book need to exist? How will this book serve the community? Why is this book needed? If you add a bigger purpose to it, it will activate your heart to get it done.?

Finally, remember that you are already an author and you deserve all the beauty that comes from this journey! You are worth it. Share your message with the world. The world is ready for you!?
