Feeling Stuck? Try Putting Your Fears on the Shelf!
Despite whatever might be going on in your life, you can work towards building the necessary momentum to carry you onward and upward toward your goals. If you feel stuck in your circumstances or you are unsure of how to achieve all that you desire, put those feelings aside for now. It is much more difficult to navigate the road ahead when you are carrying doubts along with you.
I know this can be difficult; however, my own life and the years I have spent coaching others continually teach me that if we cannot separate who we are from our fears, then we are limited in our ability to move forward. Plus, when life hits you with the unexpected or feels too difficult to bear, you want to be aligned with the purpose that drives you and not all that threatens to overtake you. Otherwise, it will feel even more difficult to find a way out.
When my clients feel stuck and do not know where to begin, it is often because they are disconnected from the resourcefulness within themselves and are aligned with the anxieties that are clouding their ability to think clearly. As I ask them, and will now ask you, “What would happen if you set those unnerving feelings on the shelf while we have a discussion? If you did, do you think it would be easier to identify a step forward?”
While clients may be hesitant at first, I usually hear them breathe a sigh of relief once I give them permission to let go of the weighty load of their fears and connect with their potential possibilities.
Try it! This may help you uncover what to do. If putting your own limiting beliefs to the side frees you to think of one thing to do in any area of your life, then you are not stuck; you are actually moving forward! Keep doing this and stick with it. When you look back, you will realize that you did conquer your situation one step at a time.
Lastly, if you want to be inspired by people who moved beyond difficult circumstances, consider the following motivational reads. These stories are incredible examples of people who triumphed over tragedy. (A word of caution: These inspiring tales do include painful events that might be hard for some to read.)

Remember, you are not your fears or what happens to you. You are a source of unlimited potential, and you have the ability to move past your greatest obstacles. I am rooting for your success! ?

3 年This post also reminds me of something I read in an advice column many years ago. A lady wrote to the columnist and said she was in her late 40's and wanted to go to medical school. She worried that by the time she graduated 8 years hence, she would be in her mid 50's. In telling her to put her fears aside, the columnist's answer was simple. She replied "How old will you be in 8 years if you DON"T go to medical school Obviously I have never forgotten the columnist's advice and have applied Jennifer's put your fears on the shelf to my own life many times. It really does work.

3 年In business we might label this as "continuous improvement", but as Jennifer suggests, this applies to our personal lives as well. Keep heading toward your goals and after awhile you will be amazed how far you have come.
