Feeling Stuck? It’s Not You—It’s Your Map

Feeling Stuck? It’s Not You—It’s Your Map

Every great journey starts with a clear destination and a reliable map. If your business feels stuck, it’s not a reflection of your effort or talent—it’s a sign that you might need better tools to chart your course.

One of my most harrowing yachting experiences was trying to enter a harbor with a chart that was out of date and didn't match what I was seeing over the bow. The waves and wind were pushing us in, the water was getting shallower - were we going to run aground or get through? My heart was in my mouth for a long anxious time, until we crested the bar and found the channel.

My promise is: you don't have to experience the same with your business.

How EOS Provides the Map to Break Through Ceilings

Every business faces growth ceilings—those moments when progress seems slow or impossible. These barriers often come from misalignment in three key areas:

  1. Vision: Is your leadership team 100% aligned on where you’re going and how to get there?
  2. Traction: Are you executing your plans with discipline and accountability?
  3. Healthy: Is your team functioning as a cohesive, healthy unit?

The EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) framework acts as a map for your business. With simple, practical tools, EOS helps you clarify your vision, execute effectively, and build a culture of alignment and accountability. When you follow the map, you can move past ceilings and achieve the growth you’ve been striving for.

Exercise: You Can Feel Better, Right Now

Set aside at least 30 minutes to complete this exercise:

  1. Write down a list of specific areas of your business that feel?stuck.
  2. For each one - what is the root issue?

  • Is it IN the business or ON the business?

Key Questions:

  • Is the issue tactical (IN the business) or strategic (ON the business)?

IN the business: Day-to-day operations, problem-solving, client issues, project management.

ON the business: Big-picture thinking, strategic planning, long-term vision, leadership development.

3. For each area that is stuck, which EOS Component is this a part of?

Key EOS Tools to Identify the Component:

  • Vision/Traction Organizer (V/TO): Does this issue relate to the organization's vision, goals, or priorities?
  • Accountability Chart: Does this issue stem from unclear roles, expectations, or delegation?
  • Rocks: Is this issue tied to a strategic initiative that needs revisiting or adjustment?
  • Scorecard: Is the issue arising because metrics aren’t clear, or aren’t being hit?
  • Issues List: Is this problem already documented, and if so, why hasn’t it been resolved effectively?
  • IDS: Are key decisions not being made, or there is no commitment to decisions?
  • Process: Is the team re-inventing the wheel every time instead of implementing and following defined systems?

4. For each issue, identify one small action you can take today to start resolving it.

Often?the act of mapping out the problem makes the solution clear and you can feel better knowing what you need to do.

How Atom Creek Got Clear and Got On Track

"Thanks to EOS, our meetings are now far more efficient, allowing our team to stay focused and accomplish more. The framework has helped us avoid unnecessary detours, keeping discussions on track and ensuring that meaningful outcomes are achieved. Problems are resolved faster, reducing lingering issues and boosting productivity across the board. ?

Another invaluable benefit of EOS has been the clarity it brought to our organizational identity. We’ve gained a deeper understanding of who we are as a company and have been able to articulate our core values and goals clearly. This clarity has positively influenced every aspect of our business, strengthening our relationships with both clients and staff by highlighting our purpose and vision."
