Be An Insecure Optimist

Be An Insecure Optimist

Most of people that I work with admire me for my confidence and my strong will to get things done right. They would probably never suspect this, but I am actually a bit of an insecure optimist, and I am glad I am this way.

I believe that most people would think that being an insecure optimist would be a contradiction in terms. I disagree. Having some level of insecurity will often trump raw confidence because overly confident people often don’t look for things that could go wrong, and, as a result, they end up in the wrong place with unhappy results. For me, overconfidence represents the fall of Rome. But when someone is a little unsure of themselves while they still maintain their core sense of confidence, they have a higher likelihood of success. I would like to share with you a few examples based on my personal experience.

When people are a little less sure of themselves but still manage to maintain their positivity this is what I observed:

  • They often listen more to the people they work with and realign their priorities and methods for success based on what they see and feel.
  • They rely on the team to come with the best ideas and most effective ways to achieve the better results.
  • They choose to be aware of the human dynamics and needs they see at work, thus making sure that they are positively influencing important relationships.
  • They are paying attention, constantly learning, and adapting quickly because they know that even though life is often random and unpredictable, they will always find new ways to succeed.
  • They work 15 to 20 percent harder than the “norm” because they are committed to being the best and even though they expending more effort, success and being a good example to others is more fun!

This world is made for the slightly insecure optimists! So be bold, be strong, and have fun!

My mission in life it is to lift people around me, so they achieve their best potential, are successful in their jobs, and enjoy their lives and families.
