That Feeling
A few days back my son came home to stay with us for a few days. Initially I was excited and so was he. He was looking forward to the food, I would prepare for him and I was looking forward to having him around me and eating and appreciating everything I make for him. A few days turn a few weeks and slowly I am making the same food in repetition and I can see his boredom, He on the other hand is making changes to my home habits making me irritable- I realised this is a true case of " Being taken for Granted"
As I reflect this on our work lives, this "Being taken for Granted" occurs quite rampantly and one of the key elements of engagement and disengagement. New employees get the opportunities to be molly coddled and taken through red carpets for a few months, The ones who keep threatening occasionally feed out on a periodical basis and keep their forceful engagement. The loyal and truly engaged ones get left behind- they have to search for their own motivational levels - perhaps this is where practice of Inner Peace Helps..LOL !!!
Organizations spend tons of dollars to do several forms of surveys and analysis to understand why people get disengaged or leave. I realize it is a simple thing- Keep new dishes on the table everyday, make sure the dish is the one the individual likes, even before that know what dish the individual likes, make an effort to learn the dish perfectly. finally serve it with panache and on time while it is hot and ready to be served. Avoid being a leader where people feel you have taken them for granted!!!.. Believe that is not easy, unless you know the individual very well. To know them very well, we need to connect with them with deep intent...

2 年Very well articulated Hema Mani ( She/Her). You are absolutely right in pointing that the feeling of being taken for granted leaves employees looking for motivation. No point of doing surveys and analysis if the result does not change anything. All an employee needs is to connect - with the organisation and people.
