Music has always been a big part of our life, and as soon as I hear the music, my feet start tapping so when I walked into my first aerobic class post baby, I was hooked.?I explored this new experience with a friend, we stood at the back of the room and with 100 people in the room, (no one could see us make a fool of ourselves). Maybe 15 minutes into the class my friend turned to me and said: “I’m out of here,” me? I stayed until I was standing on the stage teaching the 100 participants: of course, it didn’t happen overnight but it whipped me into shape in no time.??
I started studying the brain and the body when my son was a child, he was born with 3-parts of his brain damaged, multiple food allergies and he had seizure every 20 minutes: I would walk out of doctors surgeries, look down at my little boy, with his big blue eyes and say, “I don’t know what we are going to do, but we are not doing that,” I would always listen to what the doctors said then I would go looking for answers, I was young so I didn’t know the questions to ask, I just knew that there had to be more. One thing I learned very quickly is that I needed to learn how ‘the brain’ and ‘the body’ worked so I set about studying psychology, physiology and anatomy and I discovered very quickly that the human body ‘likes’ to be healthy and all results are determined by the ‘health and power of the brain’ and its instrument the mind. ?As complex as the brain and the body are, I identified that when you think about it simply, then it responds quickly.?Matthew’s brain and body became a guinea pig for everything that I could find that could help him function at a better level, he is drug free, allergy free, seizure free, achieved is cert.3 in hospitality without being able to read and write and got the first job he went for.?(Nobody can ever tall me that a positive mindset and healthy body isn’t the No.1 key to success). When I started doing aerobic classes, I had not long given birth to my 2nd daughter and fitting into my jeans was a top priority. (I know, I know, but let me tell you, I can still wear those jeans). ?I can remember the day, in the middle of doing star jumps with those 100 people, that I realized that what I had learned to help me and mine, I could help others do the same: and in the that moment my coaching and training career started.

I remember the first time I did a weight training regime (before I was a PT), and I was given a 3kg weight to do a triceps exercise: on the bench next me was a guy training (you know the guy with the big muscles) and he had a 30Kg (in each hand), and I looked at him, the trainer said to me, “would you prefer going to the woman’s gym?” My reply: heck no!!!?Now did I ever get to do triceps with 30kg, I don’t think so, but it motivated me to move from the 3kg, that is for sure.?
When I was studying, I would go to a ‘big boys’ gym and watch them train, or more specifically, watch what their muscles would do in a specific exercise: of course they all thought I was there for other reasons, which caused them to perform even better.?It was fun to watch. ??LEAN MUSCLE is the engine to your body and here is why… lean muscle moves toxins out of the body: it moves nutrition to every cell in the body: it supports the skeletal system and moves the bones.?Lean muscle is active which means it uses energy (burns calories) and it looks a heck of a lot better than flabby, unwanted body fat. Body fat if not used for energy, just hangs out on the body as toxic waste: literally zero purpose.?(Of course, important to note that body fat can have another purpose in climates that are extremely cold for example).?

I think the biggest problem with building lean muscle is that if you do not know how it all works then your brain pops up a vision of what it means to you, with the information that you have and for too many that image is Arnie Schwarzenegger. Let me tell you very few men can build a body like Arnie, women? IMPOSSIBLE!
