Feeling Blue? Take notice!

In true Carolan fashion I’m going from rainbows to rainclouds with this weeks article.? I’ve had a strange week this week.? Work started on Monday and I knew I was out of sorts – all stuff non related to work but I guess my backpack wasn’t the only baggage I was bringing in with me.

It wasn’t until the Head of the Company spoke with me that I realised how bad my form was and how badly my mood had been affected.? Thankfully him speaking to me helped me break the spell – probably because I hadn’t been left to fester in my own misery. (Isn’t that a beautiful image?)

We all experience moments of feeling down, and it's completely normal to have the occasional bout of sadness or frustration. However, when these feelings persist and start to affect your daily life, it’s important to take notice and address them and I’m grateful he made me aware, and before it had time to really take root.

If like me, you sometimes feel down and sometimes it can get the better of you – it’s really important that you start to recognise the signs yourself.? For me I’m generally quiet (Red flag RIGHT THERE!), I’m very withdrawn and I’ve a face like a wet weekend – as opposed to my normal Resting B*tch face.

Common symptoms include feeling constantly tired, having trouble concentrating, or losing interest in activities you once enjoyed. Physical symptoms like headaches or stomach issues can also accompany emotional distress. Recognizing these signs early is crucial for managing your mental health.

If this sounds familiar to you then it’s time to take action;

  1. Talk About It: Sharing your feelings with a trusted friend or family member can provide relief. Sometimes, just knowing someone is listening can make a big difference.
  2. Practice Self-Care: Engage in activities that make you feel good. This could be anything from a walk in nature, a hobby you love, or simply taking a few minutes to meditate and breathe deeply.
  3. Seek Professional Help: If your feelings of sadness persist for more than a few weeks, it might be time to seek help from a mental health professional. Therapy and counseling can offer support and strategies to manage your emotions effectively.

Lifestyle Changes

  1. Exercise Regularly: Physical activity releases endorphins, which can boost your mood and energy levels. Even a short daily walk can make a significant difference.
  2. Healthy Eating: A balanced diet can impact your mood. Ensure you’re getting enough nutrients to support your physical and mental health.
  3. Adequate Sleep: Poor sleep can exacerbate feelings of sadness and anxiety. Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night to help regulate your mood.

Conclusion

Feeling blue is a part of life, but it shouldn’t take over your life. By recognizing the signs, taking proactive steps, and making simple lifestyle changes, you can manage these feelings and improve your overall well-being. Remember, it's okay to seek help and be helped! Prioritize your mental health and don’t be scared to put YOU first!
