The copy above was authored by OpenAI’s Chat GPT-4 when we requested to draft an opening paragraph for a LinkedIn article on the subject of AI – specifically ChatGPT – and how it’s blowing our minds. As we connected on the new technology, we realized we shared a mix of emotions—excited, curious, and overwhelmed by the seemingly limitless possibilities, ranging from the Utopian to the apocalyptic…plus, a healthy dash of FOMO. And, while we are not experts or necessarily planning to publish more on the subject, we are enjoying the learning and possibilities such that we felt compelled to share with our collective networks. ?Throughout this post, we’ll link to resources and others who are shining a light on this emerging technology.?

So, what is ChatGPT??

At its simplest, ChatGPT is a chatbot developed by OpenAI in November 2022. Ask it a question and it will answer. So, we asked ChatGPT.

Prompt: Explain ChatGPT to an eighth grader.
Response: "ChatGPT is an AI (artificial intelligence) language model developed by OpenAI, which is capable of generating human-like text based on the input it is given. The model is trained on a large mass of text data and can generate responses to questions, summarize long texts, write stories and much more.”

How is it being used today?

The better question may be "How is it not being used?" With more than 25 million daily visitors, ChatGPT topped one billion visits in February, setting the record for the fastest-growing platform within two months. Here are a handful of the use cases we’ve found most compelling in how we work and live, as well as in healthcare:

How we work

We see the implications of AI boosting individual, team and organizational-level productivity and fundamentally changing how we work.

  • Salesforce Einstein GPT: Unveiled earlier this month as the world’s first generative AI for CRM, the customer experience, marketing and sales implications are massive. Imagine a sales associate being able to request a custom email to every client they haven’t engaged with in the last year. Within moments, Einstein can draft dozens of custom emails, incorporating details from the client’s account, recent company news and even provide meeting availability. Salesforce Marketing Cloud will offer similar game-changing features, enabling marketing managers to create custom, multi-channel campaigns that could historically take months to build, within minutes.
  • Microsoft Teams Premium: With meeting features like intelligent recap, we’ll have automatically generated meeting notes, recommended tasks, and personalized highlights. Miss the meeting? AI-generated chapters divides the meeting into sections so it’s easy to pick and choose the content most relevant to you.
  • Career search: While we all understand the value of customizing your resume and cover letter to meet the specific needs of a job posting and break through automated recruiter filters, doing so is time consuming and limits the number of high-quality applications you can produce. That’s why job seekers are using generative AI to optimize and tailor their resume and cover letters, as well as prepare for interview questions.

How we live

Whether it's about improving ourselves, saving time, or saving money, there are numerous examples of how this technology can help us level-up our day-to-day and longer-term personal planning.

  • Life coaching: Ask ChatGPT to create a custom 90-day plan to implement your favorite self-help book’s key insights. Prompt: I am a single mom to 3 kids, ages 4-11. I want to be more present with my children, while improving my physical health and growing my small business. Build me a 90-day plan to achieve my goals using lessons from the book Atomic Habits by James Clear.
  • Custom grocery lists: Answer the perpetual question of “what’s for dinner?”, but smarter. Input your daily nutritional goals (e.g. calories, macros), food preferences and/or allergies and have ChatGPT generate a weekly meal plan and grocery list.
  • Financial planning: Input your income, expenses and goals and ask ChatGPT to develop a custom monthly, annual and 5-year budget and investment plan.
  • The little things: Sometimes the seemingly small things can sit on our to do list for weeks. Here’s an example of ChatGPT knocking off one of those simple tasks in a few seconds.

Prompt: Write a friendly text declining Jack’s 5th Birthday invitation and inviting him to a play date next month.
Response: “Thank you for inviting us to Jack’s fifth birthday party! Unfortunately, we won’t be able to make it, but I hope he has an amazing day! I’d love to catch up soon though. Maybe we could plan a play date next month? We could go to the park or play games at our house. Let me know if this works for you. Thanks again for the invitation, and please tell Jack happy birthday for us!”

  • ?Personal CRM: While it’s not available today, something that we are both itching for is what we’re calling a “personal CRM”. We’ve all been there—you’re in the car on the way to dinner and scouring social media trying to remember the names of John and Sally’s children. Imagine, instead, getting a notification a few hours before detailing the event, traffic details, the names and ages of John and Sally’s kids and a reminder to ask them about their trip to Costa Rica.

Healthcare

From increasing the personalization of services to improving productivity to being proactive in clinical interventions, generative AI will transform healthcare as we know it.

  • Summarizing medical data: Work is underway leveraging the tech to gather a patient’s entire medical history (diagnosis, allergies, lab results) and summarize it in a few sentences, enabling physicians to understand their patients better and faster.
  • Outsourcing administrative tasks: From assisting with scheduling appointments to cutting down on paperwork, physicians are keeping their eye on how they can automate low-value, repetitive tasks. One doctor used ChatGPT to draft a prior authorization letter. Within a minute, the program delivered a three-paragraph letter with proper formatting and scientific literature sources cited.
  • Passing the medical licensing exam: Yep, you read that right. ChatGPT passed the three part exam that aspiring doctors take between medical school and residency—joining the long list of other tests it has conquered, like the law school bar exam and GRE.

Alongside the many practical and effective uses for this tool, there are implications to navigate as we continue to identify personal and business use cases - including how we think about security, privacy, and more. One sector receiving early attention with this technology is academia. Because the AI technology is creating, as opposed to pulling exact quotes or references, educators are challenged to identify plagiarism and define original work. ?There are school systems banning ChatGPT from school devices and networks and OpenAI released a classifier, trained to distinguish between AI-written and human-written text. The classifier is challenged, so far only able to identify 26% of AI-written text, but improving in reliability.

Where do I start?

You may be thinking to yourself, “This is a lot. It’s a bit overwhelming.”?You may not have interest in being an expert, but – like us - want to learn enough to identify a couple life hacks, work process improvements, or - at the very least - carry on an informed conversation with [insert: boss, direct report, son/daughter, always in-the-know neighbor, etc.].?You ask, “Is that a reasonable wish?”?100%. Beyond reviewing some of the linked resources we’ve shared, the best way to learn is to simply explore.?

At this point, we must give a shout out to Lewis Bertolucci who introduced us to one another seven years ago.?Lewis is a thought leader in technology and trends and recently sat down with us to highlight some new AI capabilities for both personal and business use.?After sharing some fascinating applications, Lewis reminded us that the technology is evolving rapidly and the importance to stay open-minded and curious. He also ensured we had quick links to the latest details related to free offerings and pricing for ChatGPT Plus:

Prompt:?Write a response for someone who believes most people know about ChatGPT but you think there is still opportunity to share.?
Response:?Thank you for your comment! While it's true that ChatGPT has gained significant attention and many people are already familiar with it, we believe that there's still a wealth of untapped potential and novel applications yet to be explored. As technology advances and evolves, so do the opportunities it presents. By sharing our insights and experiences, we hope to contribute to the ongoing conversation and inspire others to think creatively about how ChatGPT can be utilized in different industries and ways of working. After all, continuous learning, collaboration, and exchanging ideas are essential in staying ahead of the curve in our rapidly changing world. Let's keep the discussion going and discover new possibilities together!

What are you learning about this technology that you find interesting? How are you using it – in your personal and professional lives??How are you sharing what makes this technology exciting with others? We’d love to learn from this community.
