Feel like you are drowning in data? Here is how to swim back to shore

?? So Many Metrics, So Many Reports... Now What?

Been there? You have access to endless dashboards, reports, and numbers, but when it's time to decide, everything feels overwhelming—and nothing seems to point in the right direction. Or it looks like it's pointing in all directions all at once?

Sometimes, having too much data doesn't help.

I faced the same challenge during my PhD: countless studies, conflicting directions, and quantitative and qualitative data. The real challenge? Not getting lost in the sea of information and avoiding decision paralysis.

The problem isn't a lack of data—it's a lack of structure in how we use it.

?? Three Strategies for Faster, More Effective Data-Driven Decisions

1?? Plan Your Analysis Before Diving Into the Data

One of the biggest lessons from my PhD? Having a structured plan before analyzing data saves time and keeps you focused on what matters.

Before opening any reports or dashboards, define the following:

? What question am I trying to answer with this data?

? Which metrics help me answer this question?

? How will I make a decision based on these results?

2?? Set a Reference Point Before Looking at the Numbers

Data interpretation always depends on context. Before analyzing numbers, ask yourself:

"What would be a good result?"

?? Setting a benchmark before analyzing the data prevents you from getting caught up in minor fluctuations or drawing misleading conclusions.

3?? Less is More

The more information you have, the harder it is to take action. A simple yet powerful strategy is to narrow your focus:

?? Instead of tracking everything at once, limit your analysis to a specific period, product, or key metrics that drive impact.

Having a defined process speeds up and enhances analysis, reducing the risk of getting lost in details without reaching a decision.

?? Making data-driven decisions isn't about collecting all the data possible—it's about knowing how to structure and use the data you already have.

Do you still think you need more data to make better decisions? Let's talk. ??
