To feel happier, choose your Goals very carefully.

To feel happier, choose your Goals very carefully.

When holidays started my goal was lose 10 kg in 2 months, get a 6 pack abs, grow biceps to twice their size. Another goal that I had set earlier was to become a billionaire before 40. No prizes for guessing that I failed in both. How did they make me feel? A failure, incompetent, dumb are some  of adjectives that I would appropriately use for myself. I realize that this wasn’t the right recipe for happiness for sure.

Unfortunate for many, just like me, goals are inspired by looking at others instead of what would make us really happy. Mistakes that we often make include over estimating our capabilities, underestimating the sacrifices one needs to make in order to achieve them and not judging the impact of one goal on other areas of life. Highly ambitious goals also often leave us feeling worried about failing which may bruise our ego and self esteem. For example, someone trying to become youngest CEO might start ignoring health & relationships - which are two of the most important factors impacting our happiness.

Learning from my past mistakes, I have now broken down my massive goal of 7 billion happy people on this planet into smaller achievable goal of writing & sharing about happiness, just one article a day. Eventually my wisdom will grow, while I gain expertise to express myself more effectively. From writing I can shift to videos, webinars, workshops, coaching and more. At the end each steps takes me to next one, helping me to reach out far and wide. But the most important point is that everyday I have a very specific doable target that helps me progress as well as keeps me happily motivated to keep going. You can also consider adopting such strategy of setting goals that are in harmony with all aspects of your life. You may then break them down into smaller targets that will help you to keep progressing happily in the right direction.

Wishing you more Happiness, everyday.
