Feel Good Fridays: Marine Volunteers Buoyed by Community Support
Kedron-Wavell
Kedron-Wavell is the perfect place to meet! Dining, Entertainment and social activities for the whole community.
For this week’s Feel Good Friday, we want to acknowledge all the hard work the Volunteer Marine Rescue Team Brisbane does to keep a watchful eye over the boaters in Moreton Bay.
For those of you not familiar with them, they are a non-profit volunteer organisation that provides marine search and rescue services. Based in bayside Shorncliffe the VMR provides a first response emergency service to the boating public in Moreton Bay and surrounding waterways 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.?
The organisation was born in 1996 and since has grown to operate three rescue vessels: Sandgate 1, 2 and 3.?Today, they have over 100 active volunteer crew members which allows the VMR to remain on constant standby should an emergency occur.? VMR Brisbane also supports Brisbane Water Police with search and rescue operations and assists the Brisbane Ambulance crews with Medivacs.? In early 2022, Brisbane experienced the largest rain event we’ve seen since 2011. During this time, VMR Brisbane’s volunteers spent more than two full days on the water assisting the Water Police on the Brisbane River.
The work the VMR Brisbane does is lifesaving, and their volunteers work tirelessly to keep our waterways safe. Kedron-Wavell proudly supports Volunteer Marine Rescue Brisbane and provides ongoing funding to ensure this organisation can continue to provide life-saving assistance to those in need out on Moreton Bay.
