As a recipient of the 2020 Community Grants Program SASSAS, they were able to hold a 2-day workshop in late 2021.
The initiative known as Youth, Parents and Together (YPT) program, was a joint community initiative, led by SASSAS and supported by North Brisbane District Police.?It focused on enhancing awareness around community expectations, being Sudanese or South Sudanese heritage while living in Queensland in 2021, including understanding the roles of police and signs of healthy respectful relationships.
The sessions included Keynote speakers, advice for parents from community leaders, Q&A sessions, and a performance from a traditional dance group. The workshops are just one of SASSAS’s many initiatives that aim to increase and broaden the scope of cultural participation and development within ethnic communities in North Brisbane.
