Mother – A Gen:48 Project

It's only possible to appreciate how much change is coming when you've had the chance to sit at a table with people on the periphery of the elite filmmaking world, telling their stories in traditional formats while using super powerful technology that is still in its nascent stages.

This weekend (14-15th Sept.) at the Gen:48 competition organized by Runway and backed by IMAX and Epidemic Sound was one such opportunity for me.

Some learnings:

  • Depending on how important (or successful) you already are in the current order of things should dictate how you look at AI Filmmaking. If you're somebody, leave it aside, focus on your ongoing work. But if you want to become somebody (and wealthy), you can't miss this bus — no matter what your more experienced mentors, intellectual property lawyers, etc. have to say about it.
  • The most important discussion in the serious AI Filmmaking community today is how creators and artists make money. Surprisingly, it's not too different from what traditional writers and producers are talking about.
  • A profound screenwriter client of mine had once said, "My only fear is that I'll not be able to tell all the stories I want to tell." If that's your fear too, well, it should not be anymore.
