"Feel the fear and do it anyway"- Susan Jeffers

If you asked me 8 years ago, if I would face my fears I would have laughed in your face.

What? Me? Fears? blah blah blah!

The blah blah would usually contain excuses I made up in my head.

Last week a dear client of mine on Linkedin sent me a message.

And I dedicate this post for her.

Fear of taking action

I think she and I were attracted to each other because we are kindred spirits.

Meaning, I used to be like her.

I always felt quite comfortable in my comfort zone.

I was afraid to move out of my comfort zone and try something new

Even attempt something my heart truly desired!

And now somedays, the old version,

peeks at me and smirks "Are you sure this is the way forward?.

And I turn back and say "YES"

?“We must do the things we want to do without causing harm or discomfort to the people, place and things around us. This creates a balance in your environment allows you to thrive wherever you are. Being considerate of oneself and other's is the key to success in any environment” - – Fatima Williams

The idea is simple:?

You have a purpose so fulfilling that pursuing it transforms your entire life.

It's as simple as starting with "YOURSELF"

What is stopping us though?

Fear stop us from moving towards our goals
"We got it inside but it's the paradigm that's stopping us from pursuing it" - Bob Proctor

So how can we become remove the paradigms blocking our road?

Bob Proctor says;

"Our paradigms can be changed! But how?

It takes a life time commitment of self- improvement.

You must be thinking - A life time commitment? Are you serious?

Well, if we can make a life time commitment of feeding ourself, why not make a life time commitment to learn, grow and improve our life?"

All it takes is one person to change your world and that person is "YOU"

A paradigm is a multitude of habits!

It can be seen as a collection of habits, but they are not limited to just habits.?

It's a framework of thought, a way of looking at the world that shapes how we perceive, interpret, and respond to information. It is a set of assumptions, concepts, values, and practices that guide our thinking and actions.

Changing our paradigm is a process that takes time and effort, but with persistence, it is possible to achieve a more positive, empowering mindset.

The questions is are you ready to do it?

How do we start?

We start with changing our habits.

It starts with YOU and YOUR MIND.

In the "The Power of Your Subconscious Mind" , Dr. Joseph Murphy talks about the relationship between the conscious and subconscious mind.

He tells yes, how we can harness the power of our subconscious mind to achieve Success and Overcome challenges in life.

Let's see how to put Josephs methods in action

So we all know that our subconscious mind is constantly at work, even when you're not aware of it.

It's responsible for our habits, beliefs, and behaviors, and it can be used to achieve our goals.

So I want you to do something now.

Take some time to reflect on your beliefs and habits.

Identify any negative patterns that may be holding you back and work to change these beliefs and habits that don't serve well or hinder your growth & success.

Here's an example:

Fear of Failure: You feel like you're not good enough and are afraid of making mistakes , trying something new or failing at something new.

Identify the limiting beliefs that are holding you back.

For example, you may believe that you're not smart enough or talented enough to succeed.

Once you've identified these beliefs, challenge them by finding evidence to the contrary.

For example, make a list of your past accomplishments and the skills you've developed over time.

Use your past successes as small as it can be. Use it as a positive proof to reprogram your subconscious mind with empowering beliefs like "I am capable of achieving my goals" or "I am worthy of success."

Finally, take action towards your goals, even if it means making mistakes or experiencing setbacks along the way. By taking action, you'll build your confidence and prove to yourself that you're capable of succeeding despite your fears.

Your thoughts and beliefs have a powerful impact on your subconscious mind.

How can that be? Well, If you believe you can achieve something, your subconscious mind will work to make it happen.

How? You will notice that your actions will start matching your thoughts.

  • Practice positive self-talk and focus on empowering thoughts and beliefs.
  • Create a vision board or visualization practice to help you focus on your goals and aspirations.

How to Practice Positive Self-Talk?

  1. Identify your negative self-talk: Pay attention to the things you say to yourself throughout the day. When you catch yourself engaging in negative self-talk, challenge it by reframing it in a positive way.
  2. Use positive affirmations: Create a list of positive affirmations that align with your goals and values. Repeat these affirmations to yourself regularly, especially when you're feeling stressed or anxious.
  3. Surround yourself with positivity: Seek out positive people and environments that support your growth and development. Avoid negative influences that bring you down.

Visualization and positive affirmations can help you tap into the power of your subconscious mind.

How? Visualise what you want to achieve and repeating that in a sentence, you can program your subconscious mind to work towards your goals through behaviours that match your intentions.

  • Spend time each day visualizing what you want to achieve and feeling the emotions associated with it.
  • Create affirmations that align with your goals and repeat them to yourself regularly.

  1. Define your goals: Identify your short-term and long-term goals, and create a clear vision of what you want to achieve.
  2. Collect images and words: Look for images, words, and quotes that inspire you and align with your goals. You can use magazines, online resources, or create your own images.
  3. Create your vision board: Arrange your images and words on a poster board or in a digital format. Place your vision board in a location where you'll see it regularly, like your bedroom or workspace.
  4. Visualize your success: Spend time each day visualizing yourself achieving your goals and feeling the emotions associated with it. You can also create a visualization practice where you imagine yourself taking action towards your goals and achieving success.

Your subconscious mind responds to emotions, so it's important to focus on positive emotions like love, gratitude, and joy.

How? Identify Negative emotions like fear and anger that hold you back and limit your potential.

  • Practice gratitude daily and focus on the things you're grateful for.
  • Engage in activities that bring you joy and make you feel good.

Negative Pattern: Procrastination

Action Step: Identify the root cause of your procrastination.

Is it fear of failure? Lack of motivation?

Once you've identified the root cause, work on reprogramming your subconscious mind with empowering beliefs and habits.

For example, you could create an affirmation like "I am a motivated and productive person who takes action towards my goals every day" and repeat it to yourself regularly. You could also create a visualization practice where you imagine yourself completing tasks with ease and feeling proud of your accomplishments.

By reprogramming your subconscious, you can overcome your procrastination habit and achieve your goals more easily.

You can use the power of your subconscious mind to overcome challenges like anxiety, phobias, and bad habits.

How ? By identifying the root cause of your anxiety, challenging your limiting beliefs, and reprogramming your subconscious with positive thoughts and images, you can overcome your anxiety and achieve lasting change.

Let's take Anxiety

  1. Identify the root cause: Ask yourself when your anxiety first started and what triggers it. Is it related to a particular situation, person, or belief? Once you've identified the root cause, you can work on addressing it.
  2. Challenge your limiting beliefs: Anxiety is often fueled by negative thoughts and beliefs. Identify any limiting beliefs that are contributing to your anxiety, such as "I'm not good enough" or "I'm not in control." Then, challenge these beliefs by finding evidence to the contrary and replacing them with empowering beliefs, like "I am capable of handling this situation" or "I trust myself to make the right decisions."
  3. Use visualization to reprogram your subconscious: Create a visualization practice where you imagine yourself feeling calm and confident in situations that normally trigger your anxiety. See yourself handling the situation with ease and feeling proud of yourself afterwards.
  4. Practice relaxation techniques: Incorporate relaxation techniques into your daily routine, such as deep breathing, meditation, or yoga. These techniques can help you manage stress and reduce the physical symptoms of anxiety.

So go ahead and live now to your full potential, because tomorrow may not come!

Fatima Williams (Assoc. CIPD HR) , your methods have changed how I look at my “weaknesses”. I see them now was my stepping stones. More power to you. Journaling has really help me understand my priorities and my situation better. Affirmations are always a key factor of my day. All the assessments were key to but understand my current situation.

Good one Fatima Williams (Assoc. CIPD HR) . Feel the fear and do it anyway. And this comes with practice. A personal trainer in the gym will help you identify your weak muscles and suggest work outs to strengthen them. Similarly we should identify our fears and practice consciously to overcome them. At my company OffiNeeds.com , we realised that after 2 years of disconnectedness, lot of people have lost the habit of meeting and speaking to strangers and are kind of getting intimidated at times. This is especially a problem for the sales teams. So, we created an activity where about 40 people from different departments, fitness about 6 teams and went about selling water bottles to strangers on the street. In 2 hours, they faced rejections from 90% of the people and sold out 100 bottles. By breakfast, the fear was gone and their self-confidence was sky high...

Great share Fatima Williams (Assoc. CIPD HR) ...I think of fear as that annoying voice in my head that says,, "You can't do that...It's too hard and you're not smart enough." Then I take steps, no matter how small, to prove fear wrong. We are our own worst critics. One of my favorite practices before bed is to write positive affirmations to myself in a journal...Thay way I can literally 'sleep on it!' ??
