Feeding Our Hungry Neighbors In The Atlanta Metro Area

I thank so very many of you for your support and kind words as I have shared my truth about racism. The post I created about the OK Cafe boycott and my thoughts on the Confederate flag/monuments received over 100,000 openings and thousands of comments, almost all positive. I am still in shock and very humbled.

Now I come to you asking that you help feed hungry folks in The ATL. According to a Bloomberg article yesterday, 9/01, more people may die from Covid-19 by starvation than by the infection alone. That is horrible and I hope you will help us in Atlanta or you may certainly choose to help others across our world.

For the past 3 years, three dear friends of mine, fellow Leadership Atlanta alums and active Atlanta community volunteers have combined our birthdays of 9/13 & 9/14 to create an event at the Atlanta Community Food Bank where we sort, pack, weigh and prepare for shipment meals for hungry folks in the community. After our first event in 2017, the response was so great that we made it a monthly event and to date, 396,827 pounds of food has been salvaged which created 283,548 individual meals.

Due to Covid-19, we are not able to sort at the Food Bank at present so we decided to conduct a Virtual Food Drive raising money so the Food Bank can continue distribution. The Food Bank is now distributing 40% more food than before Covid-19 and the most products since the Food Bank began 40 years ago. Every dollar you contribute to the Atlanta Community

We begin our Fund Raising Now and on Wednesday, September 16th, we will get together on a Zoom Call to talk about the food crisis in our community, view a 3-minute video about the new Food Bank and hear from ACFB CEO, Kyle Waide and the four of us sharing our stories of our community service. Multi-Grammy nominated musical Super Star, Michelle Malone will lead us in singing "Happy Birthday".
