Yesterday, August 16, 2017 between 3.00pm and 4.00pm, a very crucial national issue as hot as the corruption in the power sector was being discussed by the trio of Remy Chukwunyere, Bar. Osondu Calistus and Hon. Tony on IBC Orient FM, Owerri, Imo State.
Permit me to publish a few of the feedback from our listeners…
Nma-exotic Charity had this to say...
"It was an impacting brainstorming session, Sir! I completely agree with your "zero" assessment of the Power Sector and your emphasis on "the political will to do things right”, regardless of the personality saddled with the responsibility was pointblank.
Your recipe for the government to "Invest and generate power from solar, wind and hydro energies" sums up the solutions to the perennial problems in the power sector.
I however disagree with you on the absence of "Sacred Cows" in this present administration’s fight against corruption despite their "new direction."
I concur with Bar. Osondu when he opined that "there are many" *laffs* because the "old soldiers" are still running the current system. #GodisyourStrength."
My Response:
You really listened in to the program, Nma-exotic Charity! Those were the major issues I raised during the discussions. For me, the new APC administration led by President Muhammad Buhari is doing everything possible to get the all the issues surrounding the power sector right.
The opening up of the investment space for State Governments to now build power stations in order to generate and distribute electricity is a policy that will boost the power supply situation in the country. Again, the government’s efforts to explore other energy sources, such as solar, wind, hydro, etc in power generation for the country as declared recently by the Hon. Minister will soon put smiles on the faces of Nigerians. It is a gradual process and Nigerians must bear with the new APC administration.
On the issue of corruption, I still maintain, that in the Government of President Buhari, there are no sacred cows in this fight against corruption. I hope you have not forgotten in a hurry that the No. 3 Citizen of this country, President of the Senate was subjected to trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal and was meant to appear before the court every day the matter was heard until it was disposed off.
I am sure, you also remember the number of people that have been held behind bars by the EFCC because of their money laundering activities in the previous administration. The new whistle blowing policy is another strategy of exposing corrupt leaders and business moguls, wherever they are, to rid this country of corrupt tendencies.
For me, if this fight against corruption is what the President Buhari’s administration will achieve for the four years, I think it’s enough because, he must have laid a solid foundation for accelerated development if corruption is reduced to the barest minimum in the system.
Many thanks for your active participation @Nma-exotic Charity

7 年Nice piece and very relevant discuss regarding current issue on ground in Nigeria. In my humble opinion lack of accountability and greed has been the bane of Nigeria's development drive. Quite alright we may say the President is very determined to make a mark and leave a legacy behind but the system he found himself in has stifled all his efforts and I think he was shocked at the gravity of corruption and decay in the system.... But I question; how can Nigeria rise to the next level when workers are not paid but senators budget 6 billion naira for vehicles.. 100 billion for constituency projects that end up in various private bank accounts.... This amount of money if judiciously invested in the power sector we are talking about will make a serious impact...that is a fact.... But no one seems to care about this .... Civil servants and pensioners suffer and die of hunger but some select few keep getting fat as cows and no one can question them.... With all due respect sir, there are definitely sacred cows in Nigerian leadership strata
