Taxation was necessary to fund a Federal Government that lived within its means. The model was simple, The Tax receipts paid for the outcomes expected, conversely, taxes were increased when a necessary demand was identified. It worked and is still the operating model for American Families, "you can't spend what you don't have and you don't spend on what you don't need".
This was the economic model that we taught in Home Economics. It required critical thinking, and discernment to make it work. Of course, this is what is expected at the Micro Level (you and me) but at the Macro Level, the US Government, this common sense model has been written off!
At 31+ Trillion dollars in debt, why care? The Fed will continue to print money. This leads to the question "Why pay taxes at all?" If Taxation does not lead to fiscal responsibility, and the Anti-Deficiency Act means nothing, why continue to pay taxes? It is clear that paying taxes has no impact on spending, and that spending pays no attention to taxes paid by the Citixens, So let's lift the veil, and see what is really happening.
Oliver Wendell Holmes said, "Taxes are the price we pay for a civilized society."
Really?
Is that true any longer?
Take Aways. . .
Taxes do not fund a Government that can print its own money
The Illusion of Paying Taxes makes people believe that taxes make a difference.
We assume that the Government is as fiscally responsible as we try to be.
If we stop paying taxes, nothing will change! (not a suggestion)
Fiscal Laws only apply to 'law followers'
