February Update: Fireside Chat with Peter Sunde and the Faces Behind ?redev 2024

February has arrived, and with it, our annual 'spring-longing' here in Sweden.?Since our last update in January, we've been busy revamping our upcoming website, defining the theme for 2024, and scouting speakers to grace our stage this year. Yes, that's right - it's all about our program for 2024! And to ensure it'll be a good one, we spent some time assembling a fantastic program committee, which we'd love to introduce you to.

These are the masterminds behind shaping this year's ?redev program.?They plan the tracks and spend hours getting the right speaker to take the ?-stage.?Without their invaluable contributions, there would be no program, or its quality would suffer greatly. 2023 saw its fair share of technical hiccups -?a bit ironic given that some scenes were humorously named after technical issues such as "Glitch" and "Warp".

Jokes aside: There are some videos on our channel that are missing the presentation slides, which our tech crew is working on restoring. Regrettably,?a few sessions were not recorded at all, for which we are truly sorry. Description: The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, or WCAG, can be a bit of a quagmire (hence this talk title) for those who do not work in it every day. The language is difficult, the examples may not match what you are doing, and the solutions are unclear. Once developers and designers fold in their own preferences and expectations, getting everyone to agree on even one rule can get tricky. And, for fun, add the known loopholes, shifting definitions, and gaps, and performing a WCAG review can feel like you are lost in a dark bog in the middle of the night. This talk explores some of these issues and tries to help with a way out.

Description:?Creating an event-sourced application from scratch can feel like an overwhelming and complex task. With multiple things to consider like CQRS, eventual consistency, projection storage(s), snapshotting, sagas, and more, it's no wonder that many frameworks in JVM space can feel heavy and clutter your domain model with framework-specific annotations and components. In this talk, we'll explore an alternative approach to event sourcing that focuses on functions. By using (pure) functions, even in mainstream languages such as Java and Kotlin, we can eliminate infrastructure and framework-specific code from our business logic and design our domain model without any compromises. Events can then easily be stored in any event store that you see fit. We will however look into Occurrent, an unintrusive open-source event-sourcing library for the JVM, that leverages familiar tools like Spring Boot to store and interact with events in MongoDB in a standardized format. With this approach to event sourcing, you can focus on what matters: building great software on your own terms.
