“Growth and comfort never coexist.”
We’re a few weeks into the new year, and for many, those ambitious resolutions now feel like last week’s leftovers—pushed aside by busyness, old habits, and fatigue. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone. 80% of resolutions fail by February.? This number highlights the challenges many face in maintaining goals without an accountability partner.
But here’s the truth: Resolutions fade. Evolution lasts.
Progress isn’t about setting goals once a year—it’s about small, consistent shifts that keep you moving forward. The key? Recommit to your growth today. Get a coach that will hold you accountable in the gym or in your career.? You will thank yourself in 2026 and you see the tremendous progress you have made.
How to Keep a Habit Going
Sustaining momentum isn’t about willpower—it’s about systems and mindset. Here’s how:
Make It Easy – The harder something feels, the more likely we are to quit. Reduce friction. Simplify the habit so it fits naturally into your day. For example, if you want to read more, place a book by your bedside or download audiobooks for your commute.? Make the commitment to put down the phone and fill your mind with something nourishing.
Track Progress – What gets measured gets maintained. Use a journal, an app, or a simple checklist to see how far you’ve come. Small wins create motivation, and seeing progress in real time builds momentum. A bi-weekly check with your accountability partner is a great way to stay on track.?
Tie It to Your Identity – Instead of saying, “I want to work out,” say, “I am someone who moves daily.” Small shifts in identity make habits stick. When your actions align with who you believe yourself to be, consistency becomes second nature.
Expect Imperfection – Progress isn’t a straight line. Missing a day isn’t failure—it’s part of the process. Just don’t miss twice. The key is to bounce back quickly without guilt or self-criticism. Blocking your calendar with out-of-office time protects what is most important to you.

Find an Accountability Partner – Support makes a difference. Whether it’s a coach, a friend, or a colleague, having someone to check in with can help you stay on track. I have 2 different executive coaches that I use for very specific things.? Without them, I would still be sitting in February of 2023. Find a coach and make the investment. I promise you won’t regret it.
Celebrate Small Wins – Acknowledge progress along the way. Every step forward matters, no matter how small. Rewarding yourself keeps motivation high. I like to look back at the calendar at the end of each week and look to see what I accomplished.? Sometimes, the list is short but meaningful.
Adjust When Needed – If something isn’t working, tweak it. Maybe the habit needs to be done at a different time of day, or you need a fresh approach. Flexibility prevents frustration.
Final Thoughts: It’s Not Too Late
Remember: You don’t have to start over—just start again.
Most people abandon their goals not because they don’t care, but because they get caught up in the all-or-nothing trap. The truth is, that consistency beats intensity every time. A small step forward today will get you closer than waiting for the perfect time to begin again.
