This week, we take a look back on February at VANRATH… an eventful one full of great opportunities, team bonding experiences, exciting events and some new faces! As well as this, we’ve also been sharing some insightful career advice and tips to help you thrive and reach for success.
We continued on with our expert tech blogs featuring local experts who share their insights and experiences. Some really great, motivational reads for those working in the tech space or hoping to break into the industry. We also launched the VANRATH Active Lifestyle programme with Queen's University Belfast at Queen’s Sports featuring many new opportunities to improve well-being and fitness for all.

Introducing The VANRATH Active Lifestyle Programme ????
Last month we launched an exciting initiative in partnership with Queen’s Sports! The VANRATH Active Lifestyle Programme has been introduced to help promote well-being and fitness for people of all ages and levels. Regardless of your sporting ability, there is something for everyone - from Couch to 5k, or taster sessions with some of the 62 sports clubs, designed for beginners.
Now is the time to try out something new and find what works for you! If you’re down at the Queen’s Sports PEC you’ll catch our new branding on the staircase and hallways reminding you to ‘strive for success’ – just our little nudge to say you can do this!
Featuring local tech experts ?? ??
We continued with our new tech blog series featuring local experts who share their thoughts, advice and insights on some of the biggest trends in the industry. Matt Flenley from Datactics discussed the breakthrough of ChatGPT in his blog about how this will impact the workforce and how you can use it to your advantage.
We also had Liam Fegan from Options IT share his insights on the cloud, training in the area and why many companies should make the vital move. Jude McVitty from Version 1 who won Returner of the Year at The Women in Tech Awards also shared her inspirational journey into the tech world.
Whether you’re already working in the industry or want to kickstart a career in tech, these are definitely worth a read!
Charity FUNdraising ?
Every week we give back to charity and our chosen charity is Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice which we have been proudly supporting since 2014. For Valentine’s Day, we donated one pound for every team member at VANRATH adding up to ￡53.
Last week, we finished February with a fun office jargon charity challenge where each member of the team had to donate ￡2 every time they used some common office phrase raising over ￡100! You can help us continue to support the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice by donating to our JustGiving page or leaving us a quick Google review as we donate ￡5 for each one received.
Other tips and advice??
We also made sure to provide you with plenty of advice and tips throughout the month from our career blogs and expert hiring hacks. Ross Stevenson from our IT Contract Team shared his top tips for your next temporary/interim interview. We also shared some free online IT courses to help you upskill in your career. Damian Della Croce from our Accountancy recruitment team gave his expert advice on why you should consider a career in contracting and the many benefits it can bring. If you’re considering a career change later in life, we rounded up some steps to navigate this daunting process.
New faces ??
Last month we welcomed a new team member Kevin Douglas who joins our IT recruitment team! Kevin specialises in Cyber Security roles across the Northern Ireland market from junior to senior level roles. In February our team was out and about at different events catching up with lots of candidates and clients. Our Managing Director Barbara McKiernan and Marketing Manager Gareth Morrow attended the Catalyst Open Innovation Meet Up where thriving entrepreneurs came together to discuss ideas. Barbara and Matthew Evers the Director of our IT recruitment and Henry Webb from our Accountancy team also headed to the Catalyst Partner Networking Event. As a Catalyst Gold Partner, we are proud to support local tech businesses build their team through exciting stages of growth!
Another amazing event was the Women in Tech conference attended by Rachel Boyle and Alannah Conlon from our IT recruitment team. The girls had a brilliant time hearing the unique and inspirational journeys of industry professionals and entrepreneurs and discussing trends in the space.
Our monthly team away day ??
Another perk of working at VANRATH is our monthly team away days and February’s was another one to remember! Firstly, we enjoyed a delicious meal at Sugar Rays before heading to the Ice Bowl in Dundonald for a day of bowling and fun to start the week. Everyone had a great time catching up with the team away from the office.
