February Newsletter
February's read explores what it is to be human by looking at what it is like to be an animal. The author, Charles Foster, spends his time trying to replicate as closely as possible the lives of various animals. Spending time in a specially dug set to experience life as badger, swimming wild to try and understand how an otter sees the world.
Simon loves the book! "It is a fascinating insight into how humans experience the world from our own perspective - and how if we stop and try and experience from the perspective of the non-human world we can experience empathy for the world around us"
As a college we don't have a set book list, we recommend books that speak to us as individuals, knowing that something that appeals to one of us may or not appeal to the other - an example of how we share a common love of counselling, but hold different outlooks; outlooks that feed in to the way that we teach and the very human experience that our students get.
This is probably the most asked question that people new to college ask us. This month's podcast recommendation is a little bit different. Simon had the great pleasure of chatting with Mark Fielding as part of his great podcast series #PsychotherapyUnfogged. They discussed a range of issues including ecotherapy, ecotrauma and the power of connection. If you would like to listen you can find the episode on all the usual podcast channels.

If you've ever encountered the world of mental health, you've likely stumbled upon this sentiment. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) has become a household term, often cast as a one-size-fits-all sticking plaster for emotional wounds.
