February Newsletter from SHP

We express our heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you who made the effort to join us in Charlotte last week for the inaugural Anti-Trafficking Alliance Conference. The overwhelming response and positive feedback we received exceeded our expectations. It was awe-inspiring to witness how each session resonated with all of you, leaving a lasting impact on both our minds and hearts.

Throughout the conference, we were privileged to host an exceptional lineup of speakers who not only shared their extensive knowledge but also demonstrated an unwavering passion for transforming the field of anti-trafficking. Their dedication and commitment to making a difference were commendable, and we couldn't have asked for a more remarkable two days.

Educate and Empower: Knowledge is Key

Portsmouth Public Schools is leading the way in Hampton Roads, Virginia by taking steps this week to educate their middle school and high school students and faculty on the impact of sex trafficking in their community. The training done in partnership with the Office of Youth Risk Prevention allowed for youth to be trained and pointed toward counselors who could support them if they had experienced trafficking or felt like they were at risk to being trafficked. 6 children disclosed that they were being trafficked and were immediately referred for support services. No child deserves to experience trafficking, and Portsmouth Public Schools are helping not only support kids who have been trafficked, but more importantly, identify and support high-risk youth. Thank you Portsmouth Public Schools for mobilizing your community to eradicate trafficking in your schools.

"I am so proud of Portsmouth Public Schools for leading the way to have safer communities through education, awareness and real talk with the students about what sex trafficking actually is and how no community is exempt from this evil. Portsmouth Public City Schools made training their students and faculty on how to spot, report and prevent sex trafficking a priority!"
