Industry News
In July 2023 the ACCC published a draft guidance for businesses to improve the integrity of environmental and sustainability claims being made and protect consumers from ‘greenwashing’. The draft guidance aims to address the concerning conduct identified by the ACCC’s recent greenwashing internet sweep which found 57 per cent of businesses reviewed were making potentially misleading environmental claims. “As consumers become more environmentally conscious, businesses need to be honest and transparent when making environmental or sustainability claims so consumers are not being misled,” ACCC Chair Gina Cass-Gottlieb said. “False or misleading claims can undermine consumer trust in all green claims, particularly when consumers are often paying higher prices based on these claims.” “Similarly, businesses that are taking genuine steps to adopt sustainable practices are put at a competitive disadvantage by businesses that engage in ‘greenwashing’ without incurring the same costs.”

From The Lab
Preservatives in skincare and personal care products are imperative for the prevention of microbes like bacteria and mould. Microbes are all around us, and it doesn’t take much for some to start growing where they shouldn’t be. Just like spoilt food can make you sick, spoilt skincare and personal care can also cause skin irritation and infections. Unless a formulation is water-free or comes in single-dose, sterile packaging, preservatives are needed to ensure a product is safe for use over a long period of time. While there are people who do have allergies to certain preservatives or find them irritating, it must be acknowledged that current preservatives on the market have all been tested for efficacy and safety, and there are strict guidelines on how much can be used within a formula. At Botany, we have several options for preservatives ranging from cost-effective synthetics to premium, naturally derived alternatives to cater to your requirements and ensure that your products are safe for your consumers.?
