February Mindset: Reset, Renew & Recalibrate

February Mindset: Reset, Renew & Recalibrate

Hard to believe it's officially the first Monday in February, and if you’re like many people, you might’ve started January full of excitement, resolutions, and big plans. But here’s what I’ve learned after years of focusing on resolutions and beating myself up after failing at the incredibly lengthy list of goals: it’s easy to dive headfirst into change, but it’s even easier to feel the momentum fade when life gets busy, motivation dips, or things don’t go perfectly!

The truth? There’s no “right” time to start over—or to keep going. Whether you kicked off your goals on January 1st or you’re just getting back on track now, the secret isn’t about perfection. It’s about small, consistent steps, over time.

Why Small Steps Win Every Time

When we overwhelm ourselves with long lists of goals, it’s easy to lose focus. We try to overhaul everything at once—nutrition, fitness, sleep, mindset—and suddenly, it feels like too much. I’ve been there. We find ourselves exhausted from being hyper focused on our diet for example, then find ourselves overeating on a weekend, because we deprived ourselves. But I’ve learned that consistency beats intensity every single time.

Think about it: what’s more sustainable? Trying to change ten things at once or focusing on one or two habits that really matter? The latter not only feels more manageable but also builds confidence as you see progress in real-time. Focus on a few until they have essentially become habits.

My Personal Reset: Day 22 of a 66 day Challenge

I didn’t start a new challenge on January 1st. Instead, I kicked it off mid-month, and here I am on Day 22. It’s been an amazing experience, not because I overhauled my entire life, but because I focused on a few simple, intentional habits. Some were things I already practiced—like self-development, moving 1 hour per day—but others were new to me. The key difference this time? Accountability!

Knowing that people across the country were participating in the same challenge made a huge difference. Plus, being asked to use social media as a tool to stay connected and accountable kept me grounded. Seeing others show up daily, pushed me to do the same. What was even more incredible was hearing firsthand from others that they were inspired to do the same (earlier morning workouts, focus on their diet).

The Power of Accountability

Whether it’s a formal group, a colleague, or a trusted friend with similar goals, or just letting your those around you know what you’re working on, accountability is a game-changer! It’s not about someone policing your progress—it’s about having support when things get tough and celebrating wins together.

Here are a few ways to build accountability into your life:

  1. Find an Accountability Buddy: Partner with someone who shares your goals. Whether it’s fitness, or personal and professional growth, having someone to check in with keeps you both motivated. Find a book that you can both read and discuss. Find
  2. Join a Group: There are so many online communities—whether it’s a fitness challenge, book club, or professional development group—that can provide structure and support. You can search sites like Meetup.com and find those that are like-minded individuals to share similar interests. If you can't find something perfect for you, CREATE it! Perhaps this is a perfect time to demonstrate and refine your leadership and organizational skills.
  3. Publicly Share Your Goals: This doesn’t mean broadcasting everything on social media (unless that works for you), but letting colleagues, friends and family know what you’re working on can add a layer of responsibility. Most people love to help others. Seek out help, guidance and assistance.
  4. Track Your Progress: Use a journal, habit-tracking app, or even a simple calendar to visually track your progress. Small wins add up, and seeing your streak can be super motivating.

Top Tips That Can Keep You Grounded

Throughout this challenge and my journey, I’ve leaned on a few key principles that I often share on social media. These are the simple, effective habits that keep me aligned:

  1. Progress Over Perfection: Stop aiming for flawless execution! That is impossible and EXHAUSTING! Life can be unpredictable, and perfection isn’t sustainable or realistic. What matters is showing up consistently, even when it’s not perfect. Whether your individual goals or team goals, know that we should anticipate the unexpected. Try to stick to your goals to the best of your ability. Don't beat yourself up if your presentation wasn't perfect, you indulged in a slice of cake at the office party, etc.
  2. One Goal at a Time: Pick one thing to focus on. Maybe it's avoiding sweets in the office, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, not complaining at work, reading 10 pages of a book every night, meditating, conducting a few walking meetings, taking a lunch break in order to clear your mind. Nail that, then move on to the next.
  3. Celebrate Small Wins: Don’t wait for the big milestones. Whether personally or as a team. What were things that you accomplished at work? Small wins build momentum. They are also inspiring to those that are watching.
  4. Mindset Matters: The way you talk to yourself shapes your progress. Be kind, be patient, and remember that growth isn’t linear.

What’s Your Focus This February?

As we settle into February, I want you to reflect:

  • What’s one thing you can commit to improving for the next month?
  • Who can you lean on for accountability?
  • How will you celebrate your small wins along the way?

It’s not about how perfectly you started the year. It’s about how consistently you show up for yourself and those around you. Whether you’re restarting, refining, or just getting started, you’re exactly where you need to be. You should be evaluating your goals and re-evaluating them. If you set goals in January, they may need to be adjusted and you may need to pivot based on specific circumstances. That is OKAY!

Let’s make 2025 a year of sustainable #success. One small step at a time.

I’d love to hear what you’re working on. It may just inspire me and others to pick up a new positive habit!

Stay accountable & stay #consistent!
