A new bipartisan bill introduced in Congress aims to prevent federally funded building codes from including costly mandates unrelated to life safety. The "Building Codes Cost Reduction Act" would require federal agencies to prioritize affordability and practicality when recommending new codes, ensuring they don’t impose unnecessary expenses on home construction.
The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) gave Texas infrastructure an overall C grade in its 2025 Report Card. While improvements were noted in energy and transit, challenges persist in drinking water, roads, and flood risk management, highlighting the need for continued investment to support the state’s rapid growth.
