February 2025: Navigating stormy seas
Leaders and board members are under pressure like never before. They must navigate an increasingly complex environment that is rapidly changing. In this edition of Empowering Leaders, we explore how boards around the world are responding to new demands, hear from women leaders about the challenges they faced and overcome, and discuss the mindset leaders need to succeed in an unpredictable world.
From geopolitical disruption, rampant advances in artificial intelligence, political interventions and widespread social upheaval, board agendas are brimming with interconnected challenges that have left our world in flux. No wonder having the right number and blend of leaders around the boardroom table is so important.
Unconscious bias, access to sponsors and a lack of early P&L opportunities are just some of the barriers women leaders face. We surveyed more than 2,000 global women leaders to get their views on the current environment and how they forged their own path.
In today's complex environment, the most effective leaders let go of the urge to control and direct, and, instead, focus on creating the conditions for success. How can you become a more adaptable leader for today's world?

1 周Thanks for the insights. I would be keen to explore how board diversity—beyond gender, including racial, ethnic, age, and professional background—contributes to well-rounded decision-making and stronger governance. It would be valuable to see more data on how board composition directly impacts company performance, as understanding this correlation could provide deeper insights into board effectiveness. I am particularly interested in how boards are adapting to emerging challenges like ESG oversight, cybersecurity risks, and AI governance, and would love to learn more about the latest trends in these areas.

1 周As we all know, the economic and political landscape has affected all businesses. In times of crises, it's important for leaders to have a growth mindset. In the past, the capability for change and agility has not been a leadership capability focus rather it's been results-focused. It's time to invest in these capabilities - not just identify who gets stuff done but those leaders who are agile and can quickly adapt to change. Organizations with these types of leaders will thrive and survive in today's challenging business environment.
