We’re excited to announce our strategic partnership with Heraeus Precious Metals, a global leader in precious metals innovation, to develop and commercialize low-iridium catalysts for green hydrogen production. Together, we’re addressing one of the most pressing challenges in catalysis: the limited availability of iridium, a critical material for proton exchange membrane (PEM) water electrolysis.

PEM electrolysis holds immense promise for green hydrogen production, but its reliance on iridium—a rare and expensive metal—poses a significant barrier to widespread adoption. Current iridium demands limit the scale of PEM electrolyzers, creating an urgent need for solutions that reduce iridium usage without sacrificing performance.

This collaboration builds on Mattiq’s physical world characterization of over one million unique low-iridium materials, and Heraeus’ unparalleled expertise in precious metals reclamation, processing, and catalyst manufacturing. In their collaboration, Mattiq and Heraeus Precious Metals will shorten the traditional R&D-to-commercialization timeline, rapidly advancing low-iridium catalysts from prototype to industrial-scale solutions.
